Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese massage whose roots are embedded in the Chinese art of healing. In this treatment the thumbs, hands, elbows and knees are used to apply gentle, rhythmical pressure along the meridians and on acupressure points. Other techniques are brought in to the treatment depending on the needs of the client; these include the rotation of the joints as well as kneading, stretching and the vibration of certain parts of the body. Shiatsu releases energy blockages throughout the body, areas of weakness are stimulated, as too is the body's tendency towards self-healing and a balance between the body and soul is encouraged.
Shiatsu is usually practised on a mat on the floor where the client is fully clothed, but it can be carried out on a regular massage couch too.
